Overload test with magnesium was performed in 66 patients with ischemic heart disease (IHD) and in 26 healthy persons. The test includes intravenous infusion of 25% magnesium sulfatis solution with simultaneously determination of the magnesium concentration in blood serum and its urine excretion. Magnesium deficiency leads to increase of magnesium retention in the body. Increase of corrected magnesium retention more than 70% may be the sign of latent magnesium deficiency in patients with ischemic heart disease. Magnesium deficiency correlates with clinical, functional, metabolic characteristics of the patients and with functional class of angina in patients with IHD.
